Manual WheelchairsReturn to Previous Page
Forget the old hospital image of uncomfortable, creaky, cumbersome wheelchairs. Today's manual wheelchairs are designed with the user in mind: they offer comfort and run smoothly, making them suited to long-term use as well as occasional transit.
When choosing a manual wheelchair model first decide if the chair is being propelled by the user in which case you will need a self propelling model with larger wheels.
If being pushed by an attendant, look for the rear wheel size of 12 inches (30 cm) this is often a good choice, offering the perfect marriage of comfort and stability.
If you need to take your wheelchair on cars, buses, trains or other transport, the two key factors to look for are weight and foldability. Several of the models we stock at Discount Scooters can easily and quickly fold away to a tiny package, saving time and hassle.
Most models feature footrests that can swing in and out of place to make it easier to get into and out of the chair; on some models the footrests and even the armrests can be removed for added convenience.
