Mobility Scooter Inner Tubes Guide

Many mobility scooters use inner tubes, which are pressurised rubber seals that provide a more comfortable, cushioned ride. They are specifically used for pneumatic tyres, rather than solid tyres. So, if you use pneumatic tyres on your mobility scooter, there’s a chance you will need to replace the inner tube - luckily, we have a great range of inner tubes right here to match your exact needs.

Mobility Scooter Inner Tubes FAQs

How to choose the right inner tube

Are you unsure which inner tube is right for your mobility scooter wheel? All you need to do is check the tyre sidewall and look for the size number. Once you have the size, you’ll just need to find the inner tube that matches it.

If you have any trouble locating the right inner tube for your wheel, do not hesitate to contact our expert team. With over 30 years of experience in mobility scooter parts and accessories, we can help you find whatever equipment you need for a smooth, comfortable ride.

When do you need a new inner tube?

If you ride a mobility scooter, there’s a big chance you will need to replace the inner tube at some point. It’s a good idea to check the tyre pressure monthly, with a particular focus on low pressure (which causes most flats).

You will need a new inner tube when there are punctures in the tyre that you cannot repair. Or, if there are any deep cracks. When this happens, you’ll want to replace both the tyres and the inner tube. Another sign is if the tube in your tyre is warped or quickly loses air.

It is normal to need a new inner tube from time to time. The rubber ages over time, developing cracks. This can be exacerbated by uneven terrain or heat, too.

How do I install my new inner tube?

Are you wondering how to install your new inner tube? Here’s a quick step-by-step guide to help you out.

You’ll need:

  • Wrench or socket set
  • Tyre levers (plastic preferred)
  • New inner tube (correct size)
  • Pump (with correct valve type)
  • Optional: mild soapy water, gloves
  1. Turn off the Scooter, disconnect the battery, and tilt the scooter slightly to lift the wheel off the ground.
  2. Remove the wheel.
  3. Remove the tyre and the tube. You’ll need to fully deflate the tyre before using tyre levers to pry one side of the tyre off the rim, then pull the old tube out.
  4. Insert the new inner tube by slightly inflating it first, inserting the valve stem through the rim hole, and then tucking the tube evenly inside the tyre.
  5. Inflate the inner tube and tyre to the PSI recommended on the tyre sidewall.
  6. Reinstall the wheel by sliding it back onto the axle. Then replace the spacers and washers as they were, tighten the axle nut, and reattach the hub cap.
